ITIL® 4 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Why do we need ITIL4?
The standard for IT Service Management has moved with the times. In the new version of the ITIL framework, the emphasis lays on a new way of working. DevOps, Agile, SIAM and Site Reliability Engineering have all been incorporated in the newest version of ITIL. To survive in this day and age, an organization should be agile and able to adapt to changes quickly. ITIL4 helps organizations succeed in doing this.
The ITIL4 framework is based on four components: SVS (Service Value System), SVC (Service Value Chain), 7 Guiding Principles and 4 Dimensions of Service Model.
ITILv3 will be phased out in 2021 and definitely replaced with ITIL4.
I've finished ITILv3 Foundation, should I take the ITIL4 Foundation course?
If it's been a while since you've gotten your ITILv3 Foundation certification, you should attend the complete 3-day Foundation course again. There is also a fast track you can take: ILFN4B, ITIL Foundation Bridge + Exam.
Should my organization switch to ITIL4?
ITIL4 is the newest edition of ITIL. That's why Global Knowledge recommends switching. Don't forget - Axelos discontinues ITILv3 in 2021.
What does the new Master schedule look like?
There are two tracks: one leads to a Certified ITIL Managing Professional certification with a tactical/operational focus. The other one leads to a Certified ITIL Strategic Leader certification.
I see there is a common module between the streams. Do I need to take it twice?
No.
Is there a shorter Foundation bridging exam like we had from ITIL v2 to ITIL v3?
No. Everyone has to take the same Foundation exam.
What is the ITIL Managing Professional Transition course?
This course is designed for current ITIL Experts or those people with 17 points in the ITILv3 scheme. Check out the training course on this page.
I have 17 credits and am eligible for the Managing Professional (MP) Transition. What's the training course for this exam?
The exam is included in the training course. Check out the training course and the exam on this page.
I am an ITIL v3 Expert, where do I begin in ITIL4?
Obviously the ITIL Managing Professional Bridge is the ‘go-to’ for you. Of course, you can customize your learning track. Reach out to Global Knowledge to do so.
Is there correlation between the Capability and Lifecycle modules when compared to the Managing Professional (MP) and Strategic Leader (SL) streams?
Not really. The qualifications of the Managing Professional certification are more tactical and operational in their areas of focus (Create, Deliver & Support, etc.).
Strategic Leader is more holistic and strategic. The only exception is the Direct, Plan and Improve training course, these are included in both tracks.
Strategic Leader will take a more holistic and strategic view. The one exception is Direct, Plan and Improve which is included in both tracks.
Will I acquire credits in ITIL4 as I did in ITIL v3?
No. You receive the titles Certified ITIL Managing Professional and Certified ITIL Strategic Leader by passing the exams in every track.
